CBZ comic reader for Chrome
CBZ is a comic or manga book packed as a ZIP of page images. Chrome cannot open it. Readkave is a free extension that opens CBZ files in a browser tab, one page per screen, and remembers where you stopped.
Add to ChromeHelpWorks in Chrome and other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave. Desktop only: Chrome for Android and iOS has no extensions.
Open a CBZ file in Chrome
- Install Readkave from the Chrome Web Store (free, no account).
- Click the Readkave icon in the toolbar to open your library.
- Drop the .cbz file onto the page, or click Add books.
Reading comics in Readkave
- One page per screen, scaled to fit the window.
- Turn pages with the arrow keys, Space, the mouse wheel or the buttons; fullscreen with F.
- Pages appear in the order they have in the file.
- Your page is saved, and the library shows how far you are.
- A dark theme for night reading.
Where to find CBZ comics
Public-domain comics, such as Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland (1905), are on Wikimedia Commons and the Internet Archive.
CBR files
CBR files (packed as RAR) are not supported. Extract the page images and compress them into a ZIP renamed to .cbz, or convert the file with a tool such as Calibre.
Questions
Can Chrome open CBZ files?
No. Chrome downloads the file. Readkave opens it in a tab.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no ads, and your files stay in your browser.
